What I love about Cinnamon Raisin Overnight Oats

Who thought of overnight oats? I mean, it’s brilliant! Waking up and having breakfast made and ready for you … isn’t that what we all want? Who has time to make breakfast anyway? I know for sure that I don’t. It’s recipes like these that I heavily rely on since I am 100% night owl and not at all a morning person. I leave myself about 30 minutes in the morning before leaving for work and that definitely does not include eating. So, being able to open the fridge, grab these oats and go is such a win in my books!

I love to top mine with more raisins and fresh, diced apples. Chopped walnuts would also be a delicious addition. Adding chia seeds and hemp hearts will help to keep you satisfied for a little longer. You can make this recipe dairy-free by substituting the cream for more nut milk or oat milk. Another tip? You can double the recipe to make enough for the whole family! It will keep well in the fridge for 2-3 days.

What you will need to make Cinnamon Raisin Overnight Oats

Here’s a list of ingredients that you will need:

  • Oats - I don’t eat a lot of grains, but when I do, I try to make sure they’re sprouted. Sprouted grains not only have more nutritional value, but they’re easier to digest as well. I recommend either rolled or old-fashioned oats for this recipe.

  • Chia seeds - I always add chia seeds to my overnight oats to make it more satisfying.

  • Hemp hearts - I also add hemp hearts for extra protein and omega-3’s.

  • Raisins - I’ve been putting raisins in oatmeal for as long as I can remember. They add a little sweetness, texture and chew to the overnight oats.

  • Milk - It might be weird… but I like to do a mix of nut milk and heavy cream in my overnight oats. You can totally do regular milk though too!

  • Maple syrup - I recommend real maple syrup for your sweetener.

  • Heavy cream - Adding a little heavy cream just makes these overnight oats so rich and creamy and delicious. If you don’t want to add cream, you can just add a little more nut milk or regular milk.

  • Apples - Cinnamon, apples and raisins were always a part of my grandma’s oatmeal as a kid and I’ve totally adopted that combination of flavours whenever I make oatmeal or overnight oats. It’s just the best. You can use any kind of apples for topping, depending on your preference.

You will also need a few pantry basics:

  • Cinnamon

  • Pure vanilla extract

  • Sea salt
