Classic French Toast with Berries
What I love about Classic French Toast with Berries
French Toast and PJ’s on a Saturday morning sounds pretty much perfect to me. Don’t forget the coffee! Our Saturday mornings are extremely laid back. I’m usually up around 9am and have to wake hubby up at 10 or else he’d sleep the day away. We will lounge and likely eat sometime before noon, hopefully. Saturdays were made for French toast! It’s a fairly quick and easy thing to whip up for the two of us.
I have been on a french toast craze lately. I love to pair it with a few classic toppings: berries, whipped cream and real maple syrup. The combination of toppings are endless! You can also use whatever bread you prefer whether it’s gluten-free, low carb or just regular bread. Also, French toast reheats like a dream! Perfect for a quick grab during the week.
What you will need to make Classic French Toast with Berries
Here’s a list of ingredients that you will need:
Bread - You can use whatever your favourite bread is whether it’s gluten-free, low-carb, paleo, etc.
Eggs - You will be using a mix of whole eggs and egg yolks for the batter.
Dairy - Also in the batter is nut milk (or whole milk) and heavy cream for the most rich and delicious batter!
Maple syrup - A little goes into the batter and lots is saved for drizzling afterward!
Butter - Butter is the best fat for frying up the best French toast!
Berries - I love to do a mix of fresh blueberries, strawberries and blackberries for topping on my French toast. Pick your favourite combination of fresh berries and customize it how you like!
Whipped cream - Whipped cream is also always a must for topping! I usually make my own because it’s so easy and then there’s no added fillers/weird ingredients. You can definitely buy it at the store for ease though!
You will also need a few pantry basics:
Pure vanilla extract
