Apple Cinnamon Seed “Oatmeal”
Hello November! It’s been absolutely freezing here and I’ve been searching for warm and comforting foods more and more. Theres nothing like a warm bowl of oatmeal on a chilly morning. I always use to love oatmeal, especially because it reminds me of my childhood, but eventually I wanted to lower my carb intake which led me to this delicious oat-free “oatmeal”. This seed “oatmeal” is so good, you would almost never know it’s not real oatmeal. It has that oatmeal-like texture and all of the same flavours including cinnamon, apples and cream. My grandmother would always make her famous oatmeal with canned milk, cinnamon, raisins, brown sugar and cream. So, this recipe is kind of like my healthier version of that.
The bulk of this recipe is made with 5 main ingredients:
Hemp Hearts - hemp hearts, not hemp seeds.
Chia Seeds - whole black or white chia seeds.
Ground flaxseed - I prefer brown flaxseed, but golden flaxseed would also work.
Almond Milk - of course any kind of milk or nut milk would work just fine here.
Almond Butter - adding almond butter helps to give this “oatmeal” a super creamy texture.
The cinnamon and brown sugar are the main ingredients that add flavour to this recipe along with the apples. If you are on a strict keto diet, you can use a brown sugar alternative which is what I typically go for. Otherwise, regular sugar does the trick. As the title suggests, this is a seed “oatmeal” which means that it provides ample nutrients such as dietary fibre, healthy fats, protein and omega-3s. This also means that it will keep you full for a much longer time than regular oatmeal would. That’s always a win! Make sure you add a little cream on top along with the apples and another dash of cinnamon. Yum!
