10-minute Neapolitan Mousse

10-minute Neapolitan Mousse

How cute are these little Neapolitan Mousses! I love a good chocolate mousse, but I thought it would be fun to play around with a few other flavours. It turns out that strawberry mousse is also DELICIOUS and may be my new favourite. Paired with the chocolate and vanilla mousse, it’s the perfect marriage of flavours! You can whip these up (no pun intended) in about 10 minutes and you only need 5 ingredients to make them! I love a quick and easy dessert like this.

I also love that they are served in small jars. We want to see all of those beautiful layers! Topped with chocolate shavings, it’s the perfect dessert to make for guests if you are hosing a dinner party. They can be made ahead of time and there is no dishing out required; everyone gets their own individual jar. Chilling the mousses for at least 30 minutes before serving creates the best mousse-like texture, but they can be served right away as well.

As mentioned above, you only need a handful of ingredients for this recipe, so let’s take a closer look:

  • Whipping cream - You will need full-fat whipping cream to make the mousse. If the cream is not full-fat it will not whip, so thats very important!

  • Powdered sugar - Powdered sugar is what sweetens the mousse. I typically use a sugar-free powdered sugar substitute, but the real thing works great too! Any 1:1 powdered sugar will work.

  • Strawberries - Make sure you are using fresh strawberries so that they don’t have extra moisture like frozen ones do. We don’t want to weigh down the mousse too much, so fresh strawberries work best! I recommend buying organic strawberries as they are usually on the top of the “dirty dozen” list and are highly sprayed with pesticides.

  • Vanilla - I used pure vanilla extract for this recipe because thats what I had, but vanilla beans would be gorgeous! Either one works great.

  • Cocoa powder - Any type of cocoa powder works for this recipe. I used dutch-processed cocoa powder because that is what I had on hand. Make sure your cocoa powder is sifted before it is added to the mousse so that no chunks transfer to the mousse.

These sweet little treats are composed of three deliciously silky layers of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry mousse. Whats more, you only need 5 ingredients to make these!
Prep time: 10 MinTotal time: 10 Min

Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream, cold
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup fresh strawberries, hulled
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract + 1/2 tsp
  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder, sifted
  • *optional* chocolate shavings, for garnishing

Instructions

  1. Prepare 6 mini jars and set them aside.
  2. Make the strawberry puree: in a small food processor blend the strawberries on high until they are completely broken down and no chunks remain. Set aside.
  3. In the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the whisk attachment, whip the cold whipping cream on medium-high speed until stiff peaks form.
  4. Add the powdered sugar and 1 tsp of vanilla extract and mix again until combined.
  5. Divide the whipped cream evenly into 3 small mixing bowls.
  6. Add the prepared strawberry puree to one of the three bowls, 1 tbsp cocoa powder to another bowl and the remaining 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract to the third remaining bowl.
  7. Whisk each bowl until all of the ingredients are evenly combined.
  8. Evenly distribute the chocolate mousse into the bottoms of all 6 jars. Next, layer the vanilla mousse on top. Lastly, top all of the jars off with the strawberry mousse.
