What I love about Low-Carb Apple Cinnamon Seed “Oatmeal”
Introducing, my cozy recipe for Low-Carb Apple Cinnamon Seed “Oatmeal!” It’s been absolutely freezing here and I’ve been searching for warm and comforting foods more and more. Theres nothing like a warm bowl of oatmeal on a chilly morning. I always use to love oatmeal especially because it reminds me of my childhood. Eventually though, I wanted to lower my carb intake which led me to this delicious oat-free “oatmeal”!
This seed “oatmeal” is so good, you would almost never know it’s not real oatmeal. It has that oatmeal-like texture and all of the same flavours including cinnamon, apples and cream. My grandmother would always make her famous oatmeal with canned milk, cinnamon, raisins, brown sugar and cream. So, this recipe is kind of like my healthier version of that.
As the title suggests, this is a seed “oatmeal” which means that it provides ample nutrients such as dietary fibre, healthy fats, protein and omega-3s. This also means that it will keep you fuller for a much longer time than regular oatmeal would. That’s always a win! Make sure you enjoy it with all of the toppings such as a little cream, some peeled and diced apples and a little dash of cinnamon. Yummy!
Recipe Notes
A few things to keep in mind:
- Hemp Hearts – You will need hemp hearts, not hemp seeds for this recipe.
- Chia Seeds – Whole black or white chia seeds will work for this recipe.
- Ground flaxseed – I prefer brown flaxseed, but golden flaxseed would also work.
- Almond Milk – Any kind of milk or nut milk would work for this.
- Almond Butter – adding almond butter helps to give this “oatmeal” a super creamy texture. You could use peanut butter instead if you prefer.
- Xylitol – If you are on a strict keto diet, you can use a sugar-free alternative which is what I typically go for otherwise regular brown sugar is of course delicious if you’re not low-carb. I like xylitol because it measure 1:1 to real sugar and tastes just about the same!
My favourite toppings:
Toppings are usually unique to a person, so do as you like! However, I find the combination of fresh apples, coconut, cinnamon and heavy cream finish this recipe off deliciously! If you’re not on a strict keto diet, raisins would also be a lovely addition!
- Peeled and diced apples
- Desiccated coconut
- Cinnamon
- Heavy cream
- Raisins (if not strict keto)

FAQ
Yes! This recipe is already dairy-free with the exception of heavy cream for topping which is optional. If you want to add more milk when serving, simply swap the heavy cream for more creamy cashew or coconut milk.
Yes! The use of milk in this recipe is very versatile. You can use regular milk or any other kind of nut milk, coconut milk or oat milk if not strict keto.
Monk fruit, erythritol and xylitol are all great options for sugar-free sweeteners. I like xylitol because it tastes just like sugar and measures 1:1 to it as well.
