What I love about Cinnamon Raisin Overnight Oats
These Cinnamon Raisin Overnight Oats are hands down one of my favourite grab-and-go breakfast options. Honestly, whoever came up with the concept of overnight oats deserves an award—because waking up to a ready-made breakfast feels like such a win. Let’s be real: who has time to cook in the morning? I know I don’t.
As a self-declared night owl, mornings are definitely not my strong suit. I typically give myself about 30 minutes to get out the door for work, and that time definitely doesn’t include making breakfast. That’s why recipes like this one are a total lifesaver. Just open the fridge, grab your jar of oats, and you’re good to go—no fuss, no stress.
When it comes to toppings, I love adding extra raisins and fresh diced apples for a bit of sweetness and crunch. Chopped walnuts are another great option if you’re looking to mix things up. For an added boost of nutrition and staying power, toss in some chia seeds or hemp hearts.
Want to make it dairy-free? Simply swap the cream for more almond milk, oat milk, or any non-dairy alternative you like. And if you’re prepping for more than one, go ahead and double the batch—these oats keep well in the fridge for 2–3 days, making them perfect for busy families or meal prepping ahead of a hectic week.
Recipe Notes
A few things to keep in mind:
- Oats – I don’t eat a lot of grains, but when I do, I try to make sure they’re sprouted. Sprouted grains not only have more nutritional value, but they’re easier to digest as well. I recommend either rolled or old-fashioned oats for this recipe.
- Hemp hearts – I also add hemp hearts for extra protein and omega-3’s. You’ll want hemp hearts, not hemp seeds for this recipe.
- Milk – It might be weird… but I like to do a mix of nut milk and heavy cream in my overnight oats. You can totally do regular milk though too!
- Heavy cream – Adding a little heavy cream just makes these overnight oats so rich and creamy and delicious. If you don’t want to add cream, you can just add a little more nut milk or regular milk.
- Apples – Cinnamon, apples and raisins were always a part of my grandma’s oatmeal as a kid and I’ve totally adopted that combination of flavours whenever I make oatmeal or overnight oats. It’s just the best. You can use any kind of apples for topping, depending on your preference.
FAQ:
Of course! Simply swap out the heavy cream for a creamier nut milk such as cashew or macadamia nut milk.
They will last up to 4 days in the fridge. I like to prep them for the week by portioning into small jars.
I like to add extra apples and raisins and even chopped walnuts sometimes. Yummy!
Yes, this recipe makes more of a thick-style overnight oats. If you want it more runny, then add an extra 1/4 cup of milk.
To avoid clumping, I usually mix everything well first, let it sit about 5 minutes and then stir again to break up any clumps. This usually works!
